Toyota Gas / Fuel Door Spring Replacement
66New Fuel Door Spring
A common item that brakes with Toyotas is the Fuel Door Spring. This part is easy to replace and can be obtained for under $10. After the spring has been replaced, some light lubrication on the door hinge will allow the door to open and close with less effort.
The Fuel Door Spring Clip has two (2) retention points: one inside the door's lip and the other on the door's hinge pin.
Gas Door Clip Removal and Installation
If the door cannot be opened, have someone pull on the gas door release lever while using a plastic card (like credit card) to pry open the gas door.
With the door half way open, position a small screw driver in front of the clip's door hinge pin and pry the clip off the hinge pin. Then pull the rest of the clip off of the gas door's clip lip.
For installation, with the door half way open, slide the new clip partially within the door's clip lip while at the same time positioning the other end of the clip between the hinge and pin. Then push the pin completely onto the door and snap the reset of the clip on to the hinge pin.

Camry Cheapskate 8 months ago
Great Posts - Thanks for putting in the effort to share with us.
My 99 Camry has over 180,000 miles and is going strong.
When my gas door spring broke it failed where the metal spring attaches to the plastic clip. I used some scrap plastic and PVC cement to reattach it. I intended this to be temporary but since it has continued to work I've never replaced it with the proper part.
